Necros are capable of doing a lot of solo farming in HM with 55 SS or SV ~ there are specific limits to areas they can farm but that is the case for every class. Rezzdogs build has its limits as well. a 55 monk and SS necro can clear the whole of UW including quests. I wasn't talking about farming specifically when I refered to versatility. In fact I had barely considered it at all but meh.

In no particular order :

Ranger
Elementalist
Necromancer
Ritualist
Paragon

Mesmer is it's own category. I'd rather not write pages about mesmer so...

Warriors are chop chop. Bred for front lining and it should stay that way, NO MS, oh please god >_<!
Monks are usually chosen for heal/prot, smites come in sometimes but usually that heals a bit too.
Assassins:Combo enuff said but atleast you can use different weapons (except sword, dps sucks with it).
Dervish:Only really good with a scythe.

in PvP I find that ritualists are the most versatile... to each their own.

most versatile by far is the ranger followed by ritualist.

I judge Versatility by how many different roles a profession can fill , so since rangers can fill any role but for heal/support they are the most versatile. Rits follow closely behind rangers because they can do everything but front line pressure.

This is a PvE forum thread.

For PvE, necromancers are the most "versatile". That doesn't necessarily mean they are the "best"... though, maybe they are. It's a tie between N and P there.

People comparing Energy Storage favorably to Soul Reaping in PvE make me laugh...

Rangers can use weapons, lay traps and interrupt people. That's not incredibly versatile. (Please, don't bring up touch rangers. This is PvE we're talking about, not mega-lame PvP.)

Necromancers can do just about anything in PvE excluding high-level tanking. Add to this that the N line is extremely useful in PvE, with tons of great high-influence spells, and how the N character synergizes with physicals like no other caster does.

I'd have to say Ritualist simple because of their weapon buffs+Spirits Strength.

Spirits Strength+Sloth Hunters Shot
Spirits Strenght+Final Thrust

The list can go on. Spirits Strength and a weapon spell will essentially turn you into a whole new profession and with Ghostforge insignias it compensates for the lack of armor that the Ritualist has by default.
